Row after Maharashtra governor refuses nod for speaker's election

​There was a clamour from within the Congress camp to hold the Speaker's poll in spite of the Governor's decision. However, both the Shiv Sena and NCP have refused to get into a confrontation with the Governor.

The stage is set for a fresh showdown between the Maha Vikas Aghadi government and Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari with the latter refusing to give his nod for the Maharashtra Assembly Speaker's election.

There was a clamour from within the Congress camp to hold the Speaker's poll in spite of the Governor's decision. However, both the Shiv Sena and NCP have refused to get into a confrontation with the Governor.

The MVA has however been united in slamming Koshyari's move. Koshyari's office on Tuesday informed the state legislative affairs department that the Governor cannot give his approval to hold the election for the Speaker's post as the matter was subjudice.
