Delhi Rains: Roof collapses at Terminal 1 of Delhi Airport, injures several
A roof collapsed at Terminal 1 of Delhi Airport on Friday killing one and injuring five. Several cars were hit by parts of the roof that collapsed on them at the airport. The incident occurred when Delhi-NCR was hit by a spell of heavy rains on Friday. Visuals from media showed water pouring from the collapsed roof and a taxi stuck under a pillar, even as rain continued to pelt down in the area, leading to inundated roads and traffic jams.

Delhi Airport Roof Collapse: Here is what we know of the situation so far:
Operations cancelled at T1:
➤ Flights have been cancelled to & from Terminal 1 until further notice and alternate arrangements are being made for smooth operations.


➤ “Heavy rain in early morning today has resulted in the collapse of the canopy of Delhi Airport Terminal 1. As a result of which flights to & from Terminal 1 have been closed till further notice. Alternate arrangements are being made for smooth operation of the flights,” said the Ministry of Civil Aviation in a statement.

SpiceJet flights shifted to T3:
  1. All the planned arrivals for Terminal 1 continued till 10:30 AM.
  2. Post this, all arrival and departure flights are being planned and allocated as per following:- Spice Jet- All arrival and departure (planned for Terminal 1) are allocated for Terminal 3, said Delhi Airport in a statement.
IndiGo flights update:
"Due to the unforeseen situation at T1 this morning, all flights from Delhi Airport T1 have been cancelled until 12:00 AM, June 29. Further, flights due to arrive at T1, will now arrive either at T2 or T3 in Delhi," said the airline in a statement.

Full refunds for cancelled flights likely:
➤ According to DGCA, airlines have been advised to accommodate passengers on alternate flights or provide full refunds under the regulations.

Operations at T2 and T3 terminal:
➤ All departing and arriving flights from Terminal 3 and Terminal 2 are fully operational.

Delhi Airport Roof Collapse: Metro stations affected:
  • Yashobhoomi Dwarka Sector 25 Metro station's entry and exit have closed due to heavy rainfall.
  • Additionally, until further notice, the Aerocity Metro station to Terminal 1-IGI Airport shuttle service has been discontinued. All other lines will continue to provide regular services.

Traffic operations:
➤ People posted videos and photos of vehicles stuck in inundated roads and long traffic snarls on social media.

➤ In a post on X, the traffic police said, "Traffic is affected on Outer Ring Road in both carriageways from Shantivan towards ISBT and vice-versa due to waterlogging near Y-Point Saleemgarh and Nigambodh Ghat. Kindly plan your journey accordingly."

➤ Traffic at ITO, Vir Banda Bairagi Marg, Dhaula Kuan were also affected due to waterlogging.

Rain lashes Indian capital:

Heavy rains lashed Delhi early Friday, waterlogging roads across the national capital. The Safdarjung weather station recorded 153.7 mm of rainfall, which began around 3 am.

The India Meteorological Department defines very heavy rain as rainfall amounting to between 124.5 and 244.4 mm in a day.
