Riots in Nuh and Gurugram: Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh, Haryana's deputy CM Chautala question police handling of clashes

New Delhi: Union minister Rao Inderjit Singh on Wednesday said the dangebazi (rioting) in Nuh and Gurugram could impact the investment in the Millennium City. He added the atmosphere in the VHP yatra became so charged that it created tensions.

Singh, an MP from Gurugram Lok Sabha constituency under which Nuh also falls, said it is unfortunate that "riots happened in the area which did not witness any dangebazi (rioting) even during the partition."

Both Singh and Haryana's deputy chief minister Dushyant Chautala have expressed their reservations in handling of the situation by police.


"SP Nuh was on leave and SP Palwal was given additional charge and he could not assess the situation properly. It seems that the situation could have been handled more maturely. Several provoking events of the last two or three months also led to this violence in Nuh," Chautala told ET.

Echoing similar sentiments, Singh said he has been told that SP Nuh "was on leave and DC also perhaps was not there. So if permission was given to take such a yatra in a sensitive area like Nuh, most officers should have been there."

On the question of VHP's Shobha yatra, Singh said that this has been going on for the last three-four years. "But this year somehow the atmosphere became so charged that this yatra was stopped by the minority community. This kind of a thing was probably instigated by tweets and videos on the internet," he said.

Singh also met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah in Parliament on Wednesday amid tensions in Nuh.
