A day after junior doctors called off their hunger strike after meeting West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee, parents of the RG Kar Medical College & Hospital rape and murder victim, have sought appointment with Union home minister Amit Shah, to seek justice for their daughter.

In the letter to Shah, the parents wrote that they want justice for their daughter and seek appointment to have a discussion on the matter. The letter has been written by the deceased doctor's father.

A junior doctor, who was also part of the protest movement, said, "The parents have every right to seek justice. We will also continue our demands to seek justice for Abhaya."

Meanwhile, the RG Kar junior doctors have called a mass convention on Saturday to discuss the future course of their movement and safety in government hospitals. The decision to end the hunger strike came on Monday night following an appeal from the parents of the postgraduate trainee doctor.

Yesterday, after the meeting with the chief minister where many demands of the doctors remained unresolved, a representative of the WBJDF announced their decision to withdraw the hunger strike following the request of the parents of the victim doctor.
