The Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday conducted multiple raids and search operations at several locations in Kolkata, Howrah and other districts of West Bengal, including at former Principal of RG Kar Medical College & Hospital Sandip Ghosh's residence, in connection with a case of alleged financial irregularities in the RG Kar Hospital during the tenure of Ghosh.

One person has been reportedly detained by the central agency today. Ghosh was arrested in this connection on Monday by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is conducting a parallel probe in the case following the Calcutta High Court's order. The ED has already filed an Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) in the case of financial irregularities at the state-run hospital in Kolkata.

In the morning, ED officials reached Ghosh's residence in Beliaghata at around 6.40am. However, they had to wait for at least three hours before they could get entry to his house.

In Howrah, the agency officials raided the residences of Biplab Singh and Kousik Kole's residence, who were believed to be close aides of Ghosh. Singh has also been arrested and he is the vendor who was given tender illegally, reportedly flouting rules.

Sinha and Koushik Koley were private vendors supplying medical and other equipment at RG Kar and are suspected of being beneficiaries in the financial irregularities case. Sinha is also in CBI custody in connection with the agency's ongoing probe into the scam. Sandip Ghosh, Sinha and two others were arrested by the CBI in connection with the case on September 2

Meanwhile, the West Bengal Governor has sent the newly passed Aparajita Bill for consideration of the President of India after receiving the mandatory technical report.
