RG Kar case: Ex-Trinamool MLA Nirmal Ghosh arrested in Odisha

Kolkata: Former Trinamool MLA Nirmal Ghosh was arrested on Thursday from Odisha over his alleged involvement in the "hurried cremation" of the PGT doctor who was raped and murdered at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital premises in 2024, police said.

The arrest was made after the victim's father lodged a fresh complaint on Monday, alleging that Ghosh was among the three who had forced the "hurried cremation" of his daughter's body. Police said that Ghosh was being brought back to West Bengal by road and is likely to be produced before the Barrackpore court in North 24 Parganas district on Friday.

Earlier, CM Suvendu Adhikari announced a fresh probe into the alleged "hurried cremation" of the doctor at RG Kar Hospital and the role of political leaders, including Ghosh and two others. He said all other aspects, including rape and murder, vandalism at the hospital, financial irregularities and other issues, had been probed by the central agencies - the CBI and ED.
