New Delhi: Republican senator Ted Cruz has stirred a controversy by reportedly criticising US Vice President JD Vance, White House adviser Peter Navarro and even President Donald Trump for blocking the proposed trade deal with India.

The allegations by Cruz surfaced in an audio tape leaked to Axios, a US-based news portal.

According to the media outlet's report titled 'In secret recordings, Cruz trashes Trump tariffs, Vance', the nearly 10-minute recording was shared by a Republican source and dates back to early and mid-2025.

The allegation against Vance comes as a surprise as he was deemed as a votary of strong ties with India and had visited the country last April with his family. Notably, the trip had coincided with the terrorist attack in Pahalgam.

Vance has been the senior-most US dignitary to visit India so far in Trump 2.0.
