The Supreme Court on Thursday dismissed a plea filed by Congress spokesperson Pawan Khera, seeking quashing of criminal proceedings initiated against him over a remark allegedly targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

A bench headed by justice BR Gavai was hearing an appeal filed by Khera against an order of the Allahabad High Court that too had refused to quash proceedings over a comment made at a press conference in Mumbai.

Police in Assam and Uttar Pradesh have booked Khera over the matter. At the last hearing, the top court had ordered clubbing of three first information reports registered in the two states. Last year in March, the top court had sought responses of UP and Assam governments on Khera's plea to club FIRs.
