Red Fort blast suicide bomber stored urine in polythene: NIA finds PDF with instruction on how to make a bomb using urine

Umar-un-Nabi, accused of being the mastermind of the November 2025 Red Fort car blast, stored his urine in a polythene bag while hiding in a house in Nuh, according to the NIA chargesheet. The agency said the practice came to light after the woman who owned the house complained to her husband about a foul smell coming from the room where Nabi was staying, a TOI report stated.

“He did not go outside to dispose of it and thus a foul smell was emanating from the room, prompting the woman to complain to her husband,” the chargesheet said. The NIA has alleged that Nabi, who died in the blast, was the operational head of a revived Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind (AGuH) module and had worked for years to rebuild the group and recruit people for terrorist activities.

What NIA chargesheet says about urine

According to the agency, Nabi stayed inside the room while hiding in Nuh and did not step outside to dispose of his urine. He instead kept it in a polythene bag, leading to a foul smell that raised suspicion. The chargesheet also refers to a PDF recovered from pen drives belonging to the accused. The document allegedly described a method of preparing explosive substances using urea nitrate and mentioned an alternative source of urea.

“Interestingly, an innovative method for preparing explosive substances using urea nitrate has been elaborated in a PDF material seized from the pen drives of the accused wherein an alternative method for the source of urea is mentioned as, ‘extracting urea from urine’.”

NIA's allegations against Umar-un-Nabi

The NIA has alleged that Nabi, also known as Pinda and Rahul Bhat, had been working since early 2022 to revive the dormant AGuH module and establish a network of radicalised people. The agency described him as the “operational in-charge” of AGuH Interim, which it identified as a revived manifestation of Al-Qaida.

According to the chargesheet, Nabi radicalised recruits, promoted acts of “Shahadat” or martyrdom, arranged secret meetings, facilitated terror training and handled logistics for the module. The agency has also alleged that he planned to travel to Afghanistan for “Hijrat” as his links with the extremist ideology became stronger.

'Lone Mujahid Pocket Book'

The chargesheet refers to a terror manual titled “Lone Mujahid Pocket Book”, published in “Inspire” magazine, which the NIA said was affiliated with Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP). According to the agency, the manual contained information about explosives, weapons, vehicles, arson and covert operations. It also included chapters dealing with TATP and remote-control systems for detonating improvised explosive devices. The chargesheet further states that Nabi purchased a new T-shirt, a wine-coloured shirt and green-coloured cargo pants from a shop in Nuh on November 7. He allegedly paid for the clothes in cash.

How the module allegedly operated

The NIA has alleged that Nabi and other members possessed and circulated extremist material that promoted armed struggle and violence. The documents cited in the investigation included “Definition of Jihad”, “The Requirements of Jihad”, “The 21 Aims and Objectives of Jihad”, “39 Ways to Serve and Participate in Jihad” and “44 Ways to Support Jihad”.

The agency said the material sought to justify violent extremism and presented armed struggle as a religious obligation. The literature also allegedly contained information about maintaining secrecy, concealing activities, using false identities and carrying out different types of terrorist attacks.

According to the chargesheet, members of the alleged module communicated through encrypted messaging applications, including Signal. The NIA has further alleged that Nabi helped arrange funds, obtain illegal weapons and find locations for members of the group and materials connected to the alleged conspiracy. Meetings were allegedly held in Jammu and Kashmir and Delhi-NCR, where members were trained and preparations were made for terrorist activities.

Red Fort blast case

The NIA has said the vehicle that exploded near the Red Fort on November 10, 2025 had been converted into a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device, or VBIED. According to the chargesheet, Nabi and another accused procured a second-hand car as part of the alleged conspiracy.

Nabi was inside the vehicle when it exploded, the agency said. A DNA examination of biological material recovered from the blast site allegedly established his identity. Forensic examination of material collected after the blast detected traces of TATP and ammonium nitrate, according to the NIA.

The agency has alleged that the explosive device was activated from inside the vehicle through a command mechanism. The blast occurred at around 6.50pm near the Red Fort. The investigation found that 11 people were killed and 29 injured. The explosion also damaged nearby property and vehicles. The NIA has alleged that the Red Fort blast was the culmination of a wider conspiracy involving the revival of the AGuH module, radicalisation of recruits and preparations for terrorist activities.
