Dr Shaheen Shahid

The investigation into the Red Fort blast case has widened across multiple countries, with the Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) expanding its scrutiny of the foreign travels and overseas associations of Dr Shaheen Shahid, arrested in the “white-collar terror module” case, and her detained brother Dr Parvez.

Senior officers known to ToI said that the siblings’ international movements are now considered a key thread in identifying the radical network they are suspected to be part of.

Saudi Arabia and Maldives stays under microscope

According to ATS sources, Shaheen lived in Saudi Arabia for two years in 2013–2014. Investigators are verifying where she stayed, whether she indeed worked in the medical sector as she claimed, and if she came into contact with “any individuals monitored by foreign intelligence agencies.”

Her “interactions, local references and financial inflows during her stay abroad” are being mapped to determine whether any aspect connects her to the JeM module under investigation.

Parvez’s 2016 visit to the Maldives is undergoing similar scrutiny. While he is believed to have worked at a private establishment, ATS is examining whether his stay coincided with “any known recruiters or radical influencers operating in the island nation.”

His bank transactions, employer history and communication records from that period form an important part of the expanded inquiry.

Turkey enters probe through online communication

Investigators have clarified that there is no evidence yet that the brother-sister duo visited any “enemy country.” However, the ATS has identified a Turkish national with whom Shaheen “maintained online communication.”

Agencies are now attempting to trace the individual’s identity, digital footprint, and potential influence, if any, on her activities.

The investigation is said to be in its “formative but high-priority stage,” with emerging leads pointing to coordinated foreign exposure, suspicious communication patterns and deliberate identity manipulation.
