Ravi Agarwal appointed CBDT chairman effective July 1

The centre on Saturday appointed Ravi Agarwal, a 1988 batch Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer from the income tax cadre as the new chairman of the Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT).

Ravi Agarwal has been serving as a member, CBDT (Administration) since, July 2023.

According to the order issued by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet on Saturday Ravi Agrawal, will be chairman of the CBDT, effective, July 1 up to the date of his superannuation on September 30.


After that he would be re-appointed on contract basis upto June 30, 2025, on usual terms and conditions applicable to re-employed Central Government officers,

He will succeed Nitin Gupta, 1986 batch IRS officer(IT).

Gupta was appointed the CBDT head in June, 2022 . He retired on September 30, 2023 and was reappointed by the government till June 30,2024.
