New Delhi: Just ahead of the upcoming court-monitored mediation process in the inheritance dispute involving late industrialist Sunjay Kapur's estate, his mother Rani Kapur on Tuesday moved the Supreme Court seeking to restrain his wife Priya Kapur from interfering with the functioning of the RK Family Trust and five other companies, including Raghuvanshi Investment, linked to the family estate till the pendency of the mediation proceedings.

Accusing Priya of attempting a "forced takeover" of the disputed family assets, Rani in her fresh application wants the apex court to restrain convening of Raghuvanshi Investment's board meeting, which is scheduled on May 18, to appoint new independent directors and change the authorised signatories of the company's bank accounts.

The RK Family Trust, which holds a stake in automotive component manufacturer Sona Comstar, is the flagship company of the Sona Group. Rani claims to be the sole beneficiary and legatee of the entire estate of her late husband, Surinder Kapur, the Sona Group founder who died in 2015. Rani's has termed the family trust "illegal, fraudulent and unregistered", and sought restoration of her entire estate and legacy as it existed prior to the creation of the trust in 2017.

Rani told a bench comprising Justices J.B. Pardiwala and K.V. Viswanathan that the agenda items showed a clear plan by Priya to completely remove her from Raghuvanshi Investment (which holds substantial shareholding of Sona BLW Precision Forgings), and the latter trying to taking absolute control over key companies, money and investments and assets linked to the industrialist's estate despite the Supreme Court last week appointing former CJI D.Y. Chandrachud as mediator to resolve the disputes.

The bench agreed to hear Rani, on Thursday, seeking a direction that she be solely authorised to operate the Family Trust as per the terms of the RK Family Trust Deed.
