Addressing a farmer mahapanchayat at GIC Ground on Thursday night, Tikait said the council demands the state government raise sugarcane price up to Rs 500 per quintal for the upcoming crushing season.
The farmers also demand an increase in the circle rate of land and protection of agricultural areas, Tikait said.
He also claimed the Central government is yet to fulfil the long-standing demand for a legal guarantee for minimum support price (MSP) of crops, leaving the farmers with no option but to launch an agitation.
The Union submitted a memorandum containing 16 demands to the Centre and the state government through district officials on Thursday night.
BKU president Naresh Tikait also addressed the mahapanchayat.
