Rajya Sabha session day 1 live coverage: Proceedings begin with key agenda
The Monsoon Session of the Rajya Sabha began on Monday with five members taking oath of allegiance to the Constitution. This included three nominated members.

Among those who took oath were Birendra Prasad Baishya from the Asom Gana Parishad (AJP) and Kanad Purkayastha from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The nominated members who took oath were historian Meenakshi Jain, C Sadanandan Master, and former diplomat Harsh Vardhan Shringla.

The Upper House also paid tribute to the victims of the terror attack in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir in April, as well as those who died in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad in June.


Birthday greetings were extended to Congress President and Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge, along with Laxmikant Bajpai, Rajeev Shukla, and Sangeeta Yadav.

The House also remembered its former members who passed away recently. Obituary references were made for C Perumal, K Kasturirangan, Ronald Sapa Tlau, Nepaldev Bhattacharjee, Sukhdev Singh Dhindsa, Thennala G Balakrishna Pillai, and Vijaykumar Rupani.
