It is the duty of govt to quickly, transparently probe what happened: Cong leader
Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, visited Sonapur where singer Zubeen Garg was laid to rest and, after meeting family members, said it is the government's duty to fast-track the investigation.

Gandhi paid tributes to Zubeen Garg at the site where his last rites were performed at Sonapur on the outskirts of Guwahati. Gandhi offered a 'gamosa', the traditional Assamese scarf, and a wreath at the platform where the singer was cremated. He also planted a 'nahor' (Indian rose chestnut) sapling, which the singer was fond of, at the cremation ground. Gandhi visited the singer's residence to convey his condolences to the bereaved family members.

Gandhi said, "It's a tragedy for the whole state. I spoke to the family, and they only said one thing: that we have lost our Zubeen and all we want is that the truth should be made known. It is the duty of the government to quickly and transparently investigate what has happened, and tell the family exactly what happened in Singapore."

Singapore Police said that preliminary investigations have not indicated any foul play in Zubeen's death. SPF stated that it was aware of the speculation and false information circulating online regarding the circumstances of his death. It said the case is currently being investigated by SPF in accordance with Singapore's Coroners Act 2010.

Upon completion of the SPF investigations, which may take up to another three months, the findings will be submitted to the State Coroner in Singapore, who will then determine whether to hold a Coroner's Inquiry (CI). A CI is a fact-finding process, led by a coroner, who is a judicial officer of the courts, to establish the cause and circumstances of death. Its findings will be made public upon conclusion. Despite the fact that SPF is still in the midst of its investigations, on October 1, 2025, it extended a copy of the autopsy report, and SPF's preliminary findings, to the High Commission of India upon their request.
