Rachin Ravindra's father clarifies Kiwi star not named after Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid
New Zealand cricketer Rachin Ravindra, who was not even sure if he could find a berth in the New Zealand side, has emerged a big surprise in the World Cup, playing a pivotal role in their semi-final journey and breaking Sachin Tendulkar's record f...

But his father said years later they reallsed that it was just a coincidence. Speaking to The Print, Rachin's father Ravi Krishnamurthy said: “When Rachin was born, my wife suggested the name, and we didn’t spend a lot of time discussing it. The name sounded good, was easy to spell, and short, so we decided to go with it. It was only some years later that we realised the name was a mix of Rahul and Sachin’s names. He wasn’t named with the intention to make our child a cricketer or anything of the sort.”
Rachin's father Ravi Krishnamurthy himself played cricket in the Bangalore circuit before migrating to New Zealand. Before bursting into the international cricket, Rachin Ravindra had also played for the New Zealand under-19 side.
Speaking before Wednesday's semi-final clash with India, Rachin Ravindra, who is among the leading scorers of the tournament with three centuries to his name, said: We will stay level, we'll try our best."
Ravindra's grandparents reside in Bengaluru and he went to their house to seek their blessings. For India, it will be their fourth semifinal appearance in fourth successive World Cup. However, it is to be noted that India had lost to New Zealand in the semis of the previous World Cup in England in 2019.
The Kiwis had lost to Australia in the 2015 World Cup final at MCG and again met with the same fate against England at Lord's in 2019.
Despite a spate of injuries to key players, the Blackcaps have managed to make the knockouts and Ravindra gives credit for it to the depth in the squad "It shows the squad depth that we have. Obviously, we've been unlucky with guys that have been ruled out due to injuries and we feel for the guys who have missed out," he said.
