Andhra Pradesh chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu waded into the language row on Tuesday as he highlighted the example of former prime minister PV Narsimha Rao who learnt 17 languages.
At an event, Naidu said, "Right now we are saying 'why should we learn Hindi?' He (Rao) learnt 17 languages. He didn't just learn Hindi, he mastered many languages and that is how he became a great man."
The CM's comments come at a time when Hindi "imposition" has become a politically potent issue in southern states.
