ET was the first to write that Putin would visit New Delhi for the summit on December 5.
"During the visit, President Putin will hold talks with Prime Minister Narendra Modi... Rashtrapatiji will also receive President Putin and host a banquet in his honour," the MEA statement read.
The forthcoming visit will give an opportunity to the leaderships to review progress in bilateral relations, set the vision for strengthening the 'Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership' and exchange views on regional and global issues of mutual interest, according to MEA.
A similar announcement was made by the Kremlin. Highly placed sources told ET that while an annual summit was scheduled, India decided to accord it the status of a state visit given the significance of the strategic partnership. This will be Putin's first visit to India since the start of the Russia-Ukraine war in February 2022. Putin last visited India in December 2021.
