Purnima Shrestha of Nepal breaks the record by climbing Mount Everest three times in two weeks

On Saturday, Purnima Shrestha, a photojournalist and mountaineer from Nepal, made history by being the first person to reach the summit of Mount Everest three times in one climbing season.

May 12 was Purnima's first ascent of the 8848.86-meter mountain. According to Pemba Sherpa, the expedition director of Eight K Expeditions, which coordinated the trip, she made her third summit achievement on Saturday at 5:50 AM, having previously reached the summit alongside Pasang Sherpa on May 19.

Purnima had climbed Mount Everest four times before. 2018 saw her ascend Everest for the first time. "Nima Doma Sherpa, an Everest summitter, stated that this is the first time in mountaineering history that any climber has submitted Everest thrice in a single season."


In order to cover the Everest marathon in 2017, Purnima traveled to the Everest Base Camp. She claimed that this incident inspired her to go mountain climbing.

She ascended Mt. Manaslu (8,163 mt) the following year and summited the world's highest mountain with success the following year.

Purnima has not only scaled Everest but also several other challenging summits, such as Manaslu, Annapurna, Dhaulagiri, Kanchenjunga, Lhotse, Makalu, and Mount K2.
