Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar has reversed his earlier statement that he had phoned Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar after the underage son of a well-known developer, Vishal Agarwal, was engaged in a hit-and-run that killed two young people.

" I keep calling the Commissioner of police for some issue or other, but for this case I have not called the Commissioner of police. If I had spoken to the CP I would have admitted it."said Pawar on Saturday.

Ajit' statements contradict his own statement given a few days back on May 27th when he told reporters that he had called up the Pune Police Commissioner but claimed that he had called the latter to ensure that the police did not succumb to any pressure. "If any such incident happens and if you are the guardian minister, then one would call up the police commissioner. So, I told him (Pune Police commissioner) to not come under any pressure as a rich person's family was involved. There was a possibility of different kinds of pressure on police," Pawar had said then. Ajit also defended his party MLA Sunil Tingre who is accussed of landing up at Yerawada police station at 3am after the minor's arrest on May 19 to put pressure on the police to go soft on the minor.
