The Northeast Students’ Organization (NESO) on Thursday organized a massive protest across the northeast region, demanding the withdrawal of the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA).

Protesting against the killing of 14 civilians in Nagaland's Mon district on Saturday by security forces, Naga students Federation (NSF) took to the streets in Nagaland protesting and burning effigies.

In Assam All Assam Students’ Union (AASU) staged a sit-in demonstration. NESO said “It is to be mentioned that the armed forces have been operating in the northeast with impunity and they are further emboldened with the imposition of a draconian law known as the Armed Forces Special Powers Act, 1958 (AFSPA) in which the Government of India has not only refused to repeal but decided to continue the imposition even though there has been a massive peoples movement for the repeal of this Act.”

Meanwhile, in connection with State Crime Police Station Case No. 07/2021 of Oting killing incident in Mon district on December 4, 2021, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has requested any person having any information on the unfortunate incident to contact it.

In a statement the state government said, “The identity of the informant will be kept confidential on request. The original recorded audio/video/document would be collected from the source after following due legal procedure.”
