Protests erupt in Mangolpuri over anti-encroachment demolition of mosque

Protests broke out in northwest Delhi's Mangolpuri area as parts of a mosque were demolished due to alleged encroachment, leading to tensions in the locality. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) carried out the demolition drive, accompanied by a heavy police presence and a paramilitary company. The MCD, along with the local police and paramilitary personnel, arrived at Mangolpuri's Y block early in the morning to address the illegal encroachment at the mosque.

As the demolition drive started at 6 am, locals gathered at the spot and started protesting, the officer said.


The demolition drive began at 6 a.m., prompting locals to gather and protest the action. While there were unconfirmed reports of stone pelting during the drive, the police denied any such incidents.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (outer) Jimmy Chiram commented on the situation, stating, "Some people objected to the demolition but the situation was now under control."

Chiram also mentioned that the demolition was temporarily halted after demolishing a few walls because some parts of the encroachment were strong and required heavy machinery. There has been no immediate response from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi regarding the situation, leaving the community concerned about further developments.
