Proscribed Hynniewtrep National Liberation Council (HNLC) has claimed responsibility for the IED blast at Khyndai Lad in Shillong on Sunday.

Police have apprehended the self-styled ‘area commander’ of the HNLC of Shillong Region in connection with the explosion.

SP of the East Khasi Hills district Police, Sylvester Nongtnger said that the militant leader had been detained within a few hours of the blast for his suspected involvement.


Meghalaya Home Minister Lahkmen Rymbui said that police had detained two people including a juvenile suspecting their links to the blast.
