A private container carrying gold worth Rs 666 crore capsized near Erode. The driver and security guard sustained injuries, but the gold jewels inside the container remained safe. The police are investigating the incident.

A private container transporting gold worth Rs 666 crore capsized at Chitode near Erode late on Monday night. The container, belonging to a private logistics firm, was loaded with 810 kilograms of gold jewels and was en route from Coimbatore to Salem.

The mishap occurred when the driver, Sasikumar, lost control of the vehicle while negotiating a turn near Samathuvapuram, causing it to overturn. Both Sasikumar and the armed security guard, Balraj, sustained serious injuries in the incident. Upon receiving the news, Chitode police promptly responded, rescued the injured, and rushed them to a nearby hospital.

Fortunately, the gold jewels inside the container remained unharmed. The consignee and consignor were informed of the incident and immediately dispatched a new truck and security guard to the scene.


They successfully transferred the gold jewels from the overturned vehicle to the new truck and proceeded towards Salem. The Chitode police have registered a case and are currently investigating the matter.
