AI crash: Principal Secretary PK Mishra at site, pushes for speedy probe & support

NEW DELHI: Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, PK Mishra, visited Ahmedabad on Sunday to assess the progress of the investigation into the Air India AI 171 crash and meet the families of the victims. He reviewed the ongoing relief efforts and the support being provided to the bereaved families.

Officials confirmed that the Flight Data Recorder (FDR) and Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR) have been located and secured.

During his visit, the government stated that Mishra reiterated Prime Minister Narendra Modi's directive to ensure swift relief, a thorough investigation, and comprehensive assistance for the victims and their families.


Mishra visited the accident site near BJ Medical College, Meghani Nagar, where senior officials from the Gujarat administration, Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB), and Airports Authority of India briefed him on the sequence of events and the immediate response measures.

At Civil Hospital, Ahmedabad, Mishra met family members of those who lost their lives in the crash, observed the DNA matching process, and directed authorities to provide complete assistance. He emphasised the need for a seamless and compassionate approach. He also met injured victims and instructed hospital officials to prioritise their treatment and recovery.

Mishra later visited the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) in Gandhinagar, where he reviewed the DNA sampling work.
