Union Home and Cooperation Minister Amit Shah said that primary agricultural credit societies (PACS) will be set up in all panchayats of the country over the next five years to boost activities such as marketing of dairy products. He said the people of the North East will benefit a great deal from this.

Shah said there were only 65,000 active PACS at present, and all panchayats must have one such body by 2027 to promote farming and dairy activities at the grassroots level. Shah, along with BJP president JP Nadda, arrived on three-day visit to the North East on Friday.

Inaugurating the 'Eastern and North-Eastern Zones Dairy Cooperative Conclave- 2022' at Manan Kendra in Sikkim, Shah said, "The cooperation ministry is working on a plan to set up multi-purpose PACS in panchayats over the next five years to promote various cooperative activities at the grassroots level."


He said such PACS will be engaged in activities like sale of gas and petrol, marketing of dairy and farm products.
