President Murmu confers former BJP chief LK Advani with Bharat Ratna at his residence

President Droupadi Murmu on Sunday conferred former Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) supremo Lal Krishna Advani with the prestigious Bharat Ratna at his residence. Prime Minister Narendra Modi was also present at the veteran leader's residence.

Further, Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu were also present on this occasion. The location was chosen keeping in view the ailing health of Advani.

PM Modi, earlier in February, had announced that the senior BJP leader will be conferred the Bharat Ratna.



Born in Karachi, Pakistan on November 8, 1927, L.K. Advani, who served as the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party for an extended period since 1980, had a notable political career spanning nearly three decades.

He held key positions such as Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister under Atal Bihari Vajpayee's leadership from 1999 to 2004.

Widely respected for his intellect and unwavering commitment to a strong India, Prime Minister Modi acknowledged Advani's significant role in the country's progress.

"I am very happy to share that Shri LK Advani Ji will be conferred the Bharat Ratna. I also spoke to him and congratulated him on being conferred this honour. One of the most respected statesmen of our times, his contribution to the development of India is monumental. His is a life that started from working at the grassroots to serving the nation as our Deputy Prime Minister. He distinguished himself as our Home Minister and I&B Minister as well. His Parliamentary interventions have always been exemplary, full of rich insights," PM posted on X.
