Praveen Sood appointed CBI director

Sood will succeed Subodh Kumar Jaiswal, whose tenure comes to an end on May 25. Sood had been appointed Karnataka DGP in January 2020.
"Approval of the competent authority is hereby conveyed to the appointment of Praveen Sood, IPS, as director, Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), for a period of two years," the Department of Personnel and Training said in its order issued on Sunday.
As per available information, a high-powered committee headed by Prime Minister Modi had shortlisted names on Saturday. These were sent to the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet. The other two shortlisted names were Sudhir Kumar Saxena, DGP, Madhya Pradesh, and Taj Hassan, director general, fire service, civil defence and home guards.
Sood, who was set to retire later this year, is an alumnus of IIT-Delhi, IIM-Bangalore and Syracuse University in New York. He also worked as principal secretary, home department; additional director general of police, Karnataka State Reserve Police; and additional director general of police, administration. The 1986 batch IPS officer has also served as police advisor to the government of Mauritius.
