New Delhi: India extended its support to the upcoming elections in Nepal, which has witnessed political instability after the 'Gen Z-led' protests last year, as NSA Ajit Doval met the country's former PM, also a former Maoist leader, Pushpa Kamal Dahal aka Prachanda, here over the weekend.

Doval met Prachanda here and discussed safeguarding Nepal's democracy through the polls scheduled to be held on March 5. A dinner was organised for Prachanda, who is the leader of the Nepal Communist Party. The meeting was an opportunity to discuss the current political situation in Nepal and the upcoming polls, it has been learnt.

The focus of the meet was implementation of elections as the fundamental solution to the country's political transition. Doval suggested that elections are a key to protect the political system and that India wanted stability for its neighbour. In Nepal, the parties of three former PMs - Sher Bahadur Deuba, KP Sharma Oli and Prachanda - are preparing to forge an alliance. Elections for Nepal's Upper House of Parliament are scheduled for January 25.
