Following the police lathi charge on protesting teachers last week, the Bidhannagar police have served notices to several teachers and have summoned them to the police station on May 21. The SSC teachers, who lost their jobs following the recent SC verdict, continued their protests in front of the Bikash Bhawan.

On April 3, the Supreme Court had cancelled 25,753 school jobs in West Bengal, upholding a previous order by the Calcutta High Court's division bench. SSC teachers have been protesting for more than 12 days following the verdict.

"We are taking legal opinion on the matter. At least five SSC teachers have received such notices. If some teachers are summoned by the police, we all will accompany them, showing support," Chinmoy Mondal, one of the teachers leading the protest, said.

Police have filed a suo motu case against the protesting teachers, allegedly accusing them of destroying public property, obstructing state government personnel from performing their duties, among others.
