The accused has been taken into police custody at the Civil Lines station, and authorities are carrying out further investigation.
"Accused has been taken into police custody. Further investigation is going on. We are investigating it from all the possible angle," Delhi Police said in an official statement.
Meanwhile, according to PTI sources, Delhi Police's Special Cell is set to probe attack.
The incident occurred during the Chief Minister’s weekly Jan Sunvai at her Civil Lines residence, where citizens directly present grievances to the CM’s office. Khimji initially handed over some papers to Gupta before allegedly attacking her, the news agency further reported citing sources.
Delhi BJP President Virendraa Sachdeva confirmed that the CM’s condition is stable, stating she suffered a minor blow to the head. He dismissed reports of a slap or stone being thrown as fabricated, noting that Gupta’s public engagements will continue.
The attack drew condemnation across party lines.
Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav highlighted concerns over women’s safety, saying, "If the CM of Delhi is not safe, how can a common man or common woman be safe?"
Both BJP and Congress leaders urged the authorities to ensure a swift investigation, underlining that such incidents are unacceptable in a democratic setup.
