In a surprising turn of events, Delhi Police recently apprehended two individuals, known by their nicknames Doraemon and Nobita, during a routine document check near Subhash Place. However, these names do not refer to the beloved characters from the Japanese manga series. Instead, they are aliases for Dharmendra and Mohit, two notorious pickpockets hailing from Shalimar Bagh, Delhi, a TOI report stated.

Dharmendra, a 25-year-old school dropout, has earned the moniker Doraemon due to his short stature, unassuming appearance, and uncanny ability to snatch items from unsuspecting victims. His accomplice, Mohit, a 20-year-old with a similar background, goes by the name Nobita. Just like their fictional counterparts, these two individuals have a penchant for operating in crowded areas such as bustling markets, public transport, and tourist hotspots.

Dharmendra, described by a police officer as "unobtrusive and inconspicuous in appearance, with nondescript attire that blends easily into a crowd," often carried a pocket knife for intimidation purposes. His criminal record includes at least seven thefts, which had gone unnoticed by authorities for several months.

Their luck finally ran out during a random picket check near Subhash Place on October 13. The duo's modus operandi involved stealing a bike each morning and then targeting unsuspecting pedestrians throughout the day. It was their stolen vehicle that ultimately brought them to the attention of the police. During a routine check, officers spotted Dharmendra and Mohit riding the stolen bike without helmets and lacking necessary documents.

When approached by the police, the duo attempted to flee but were pursued and apprehended. Upon searching them, the officers discovered two stolen mobile phones and a knife in their possession. Additionally, the stolen bike was traced back to a neighborhood in Subhash Place.

Jitendra Kr Meena, DCP (north-west), said that a case has been registered against the two individuals under relevant sections of theft in the Indian Penal Code and the Arms Act. Dharmendra is already wanted in seven cases involving snatching, robbery, and theft, while authorities are investigating Mohit's background.
