Poland recognised India’s Serum Institute-manufactured Covid-19 vaccine Covishield as an equivalent to those recognized by the European Union on Friday, with exemptions from quarantine after entering the nation's territory.

The announcement was made by the official Twitter account of the embassy of the Republic of Poland in New Delhi.

"Poland has recognized #Covishield as a vaccine equivalent to those recognized by the European Union, exempting from quarantine after entering the territory of the Republic of Poland," the Twitter handle posted.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi earlier today congratulated the country on achieving the milestone of administering over 100 crore Covid-19 vaccine doses since the beginning of its inoculation drive in January.

Yesterday, a study published in the New England Journal of Medicine showed that two doses of Covishield and Pfizer vaccines may be 90% effective at preventing deaths from the Delta variant of the SARS-CoV-2 virus.
