In sync with the Centre's philosophy of dedicating public buildings to people, all Raj Bhawans will be renamed Lok Bhawans and the new complex housing the Prime Minister's Office will be called 'Seva Teerth'.

Going by the mantra 'Government exists to serve', the Centre is emphasising on the shift in names. According to sources, the new complexes in Lutyens Delhi will reflect the change. A senior official said, "These changes mark a deeper ideological transition. A shift in names is also a shift in mindset".

Since the Modi government assumed power in 2014, there is an emphasis on renaming public spaces. The Race Course Road, where Prime Minister's official residence is located, was renamed Lok Kalyan Marg in 2016. Rajpath became Kartavya Path -- a decision which was touted as a break from the colonial past. The Central Secretariat is named Kartavya Bhavan. A vast administrative hub was built around the idea that public service is a commitment. Following this decision, eight states and a UT have renamed their Raj Bhawans as Lok Bhawans.
