PM to discuss Covid-19 issues with Assam, other North Eastern CMs today

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will hold a virtual interaction with chief ministers of Assam and the other seven northeast states on Tuesday on the Covid-19 fightback in these states in the wake of reports that 37 of the 58 districts reporting more than 10% positivity rate are from this region.

The Prime Minister will hold a video conference with chief ministers of Assam, Nagaland, Tripura, Sikkim, Manipur, Meghalaya, Arunachal Pradesh and Mizoram on the Covid-19 situation in these states.

Health ministry data shows that of the 58 districts where positivity rate is above 10%, a high number are from the northeast. While Manipur has the highest number of such districts at eight, Meghalaya is close behind at seven. Arunachal Pradesh (5), Assam (4), Sikkim (4), Mizoram (3), Nagaland (3), and Tripura (3) are the others in the list.


The remaining districts are from Rajasthan (10), Kerala (8), Puducherry, Odisha and Maharashtra (one each).

Of the 58 districts where positive cases are between five and 10%, the northeast states and Assam constitute half of the list at 29. Arunachal Pradesh has eight districts, Assam seven while Manipur has five such districts. Meghalaya, Tripura (3 each), Mizoram (2) and Nagaland (1) are the others in this list.

In other parts of the country where districts have recorded between 5 and 10% positive cases, Maharashtra has eight districts while Odisha has seven, followed by Kerala (6), Rajasthan and Jharkhand (2 each), Chhattisgarh, Himachal Pradesh, Telangana and West Bengal (one each).
