PM reaffirms stability, prosperity in Indo-Pacific in meetings with foreign ministers of Australia, Japan

New Delhi: India and Australia will continue to work for a free, open, secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Tuesday after he held discussions with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong on the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

Prime Minister Modi also met Japanese Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi and reaffirmed the vital role of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership in advancing peace, stability and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific and beyond.

Earlier in the day, India hosted the Quad foreign ministers' meeting here, chaired by External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, which was attended by US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Australian Foreign Minister Wong and Japanese Foreign Minister Motegi.

"Happy to receive Senator Penny Wong, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Australia. We discussed the growing India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in areas such as defence, trade, technology and ensuring supply chain resilience. India and Australia will continue to work for a free, open, secure and prosperous Indo-Pacific," Modi posted on X.

In another post, Modi said, "Delighted to receive Mr Toshimitsu Motegi, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Japan. Reaffirmed the vital role of the India-Japan Special Strategic and Global Partnership in advancing peace, stability and prosperity across the Indo-Pacific and beyond."

Seeking to inject fresh momentum into the grouping, the Quad on Tuesday announced energy security and critical minerals frameworks to mitigate supply chain disruptions and unveiled major measures to upgrade maritime surveillance and port infrastructure across the Indo-Pacific.
