In a display of deep respect for the Indian Tricolour, Prime Minister Narendra Modi ensured its safety during the group photo session at the BRICS Summit. Each leader's position was marked by their respective national flags, and PM Modi's actions set an example for all.

During the gathering at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg, where BRICS leaders congregated for plenary sessions, they first posed for a family photograph. Notably, Prime Minister Modi and Chinese Premier Xi Jinping stood apart, while South African President Cyril Ramaphosa held their hands together.

Among the distinguished leaders in attendance were Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Brazilian President Lula da Silva.

Following the plenaries, a cultural performance and a banquet dinner hosted by President Ramaphosa were scheduled.

The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) took to 'X' and tweeted, "PM Narendra Modi held a productive meeting with President Cyril Ramaphosa in Johannesburg. They discussed strengthening the India-South Africa partnership in diverse sectors such as boosting business ties, security, and people-to-people connect."

PM Modi had arrived in South Africa on Tuesday and received a warm welcome from the Indian diaspora, with chants of 'Vande Mataram'.

The opening day of the 15th BRICS Summit in Johannesburg featured the BRICS Business Forum Leaders' Dialogue. During his address, PM Modi emphasized India's trajectory toward becoming a 5 trillion-dollar economy and being a driving force in the global economy.

His special message to the dialogue was that mutual trust and transparency can have a significant impact, particularly in the Global South.

It's important to note that this summit marks the first in-person BRICS gathering after three consecutive years of virtual meetings due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

This display of reverence for the national flag exemplifies the spirit of diplomacy and cooperation at the BRICS Summit, where leaders aim to strengthen international relations and foster global development.
