PM Modi's mother passes away: Hiraben's journey of a century comes to an end

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mother Hiraben passed away at a hospital in Ahmedabad early on Friday. She was 100-years-old.

Hiraben was admitted to UN Mehta Hospital in Ahmedabad after her health deteriorated on Tuesday night.

While informing citizens about his mother’s demise, PM Modi wrote, "A great journey of 100 years has come to an end.”


She had celebrated her 100th birthday on June 18, 2022. On this occasion, a puja was held in Vadnagar's Hatkeshwar temple. The PM had also dedicated a blog to his mother, underlining her sacrifices as well as the different facets of her life that "shaped" his mind, personality, and self-confidence.


Hiraben was born in Palanpur. She had shifted to Vadnagar after marriage with Damodar das Modi at the age of 13 years.

In Vadnagar, she used to treat small children and females with home remedies. She was also known as Dossi Maa, PM Modi’s brother Prahlad Modi had revealed to the media.

Hiraben, also called Hiraba, lived at Raysan village near Gandhinagar with Modi's younger brother Pankaj Modi. The Prime Minister regularly visited Raysan and spent time with his mother during his visits to Gujarat.
