The first meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump could take place as early as mid-February, if Trump travels to Paris for the Artificial Intelligence (AI) summit convened by the French President.

There are also speculations that if Trump does not attend the AI summit, Modi may travel to Washington DC in February for the first meeting between the two leaders.

Sources told ET that no dates have been finalised and all options are being considered in the backdrop of potential tensions over illegal migrants and tariff. A final decision will be arrived at after a few additional meetings with the Trump administration. Modi will attend the AI summit and Trump has been invited for the summit, and the two could meet on the sidelines if Trump attends the summit, hinted sources. President Trump last met Modi in February 2020 in India and the two share an excellent chemistry.

The US President will travel to India later in the year when India hosts the Quad summit.

In 2019, Trump held a 'Howdy Modi' rally with Modi in Houston, drawing 50,000 people, mainly Indian Americans.
