Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday called on citizens across the country to actively participate in the "Your Money, Your Right" movement, a nationwide push aimed at helping people reclaim unclaimed financial assets. The appeal comes as the initiative has already facilitated the return of Rs 2,000 crore to rightful owners over the past two months.

Launched on October 4, the government’s "Your Money, Your Right" campaign seeks to streamline the settlement of unclaimed assets such as bank deposits, insurance payouts, dividends, shares, mutual funds and pensions. The effort brings together government agencies, regulators, banks, and financial institutions to identify and return long-forgotten funds.

“Through the coordinated efforts of all stakeholders, notably the government, regulatory bodies, banks and other financial institutions, nearly Rs 2,000 crore has already been returned to the rightful owners,” Modi said in a social media post.

Between October and December 5, 2025, special camps were organised in 477 districts, drawing participation from public representatives, district administrations and officials from financial institutions to help streamline the claims process.

“But we want to scale up this movement in the coming days,” the Prime Minister added, urging more people to check for and claim their unclaimed funds.

Modi also highlighted the magnitude of dormant assets still waiting to be claimed: Indian banks currently hold Rs 78,000 crore in unclaimed deposits; insurance companies have nearly Rs 14,000 crore; mutual fund houses account for around Rs 3,000 crore; and unclaimed dividends total Rs 9,000 crore.
