PM Modi to meet Putin during visit to Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan

New Delhi: A meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin will be a key highlight of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's trip to the Central Asian countries of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan between August 29 and September 1.

While the Uzbekistan leg of the visit will be bilateral in nature, Modi's trip to Bishkek will focus on the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit.

His meeting with Putin on the sidelines of the SCO Summit in Bishkek, just ahead of Putin's visit to New Delhi for the BRICS Summit in September, will seek to boost strategic partnership across sectors, including energy and connectivity and joint projects. Modi is also expected to travel to Russia later this year for the annual summit.

MEA secretary (West) Sibi George said on the first leg of his two-nation trip, the PM will undertake a two-day state visit to Tashkent at the invitation of Uzbekistan President Shavkat Mirziyoyev. Modi will next travel to Bishkek to participate in the SCO Summit on August 31.
