Top Union ministers, including defence minister Rajnath Singh, home minister Amit Shah, finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman, external affairs minister S Jaishankar, and senior government officials, including the Cabinet Secretary, foreign secretary, home secretary, petroleum secretary and Department of Economic Affairs secretary, are expected to participate. The aim is to ensure coordinated action in the spirit of 'Team India', the sources said.
This will be the first time the PM will hold a meeting with chief ministers on the West Asia conflict, which began on February 28 following US-Israel strikes on Iran. Tehran has since retaliated, targeting Israel and parts of the Gulf region, raising concerns over wider instability.
Chief ministers of poll-bound states will not be part of the meeting due to the model code of conduct.
The Cabinet Secretariat will hold a separate meeting with the chief secretaries of poll-bound Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, Kerala and Puducherry.
