PM Modi, Swedish counterpart Ulf Kristersson hold talks to boost trade, tech and defence ties

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Swedish counterpart Ulf Kristersson on Sunday held talks on a range of issues, including trade, technology and defence, to bolster the bilateral partnership marked by strong economic linkages.

The talks between Modi and Kristersson focused on exploring new avenues of cooperation to enhance bilateral trade, which reached $7.75 billion in 2025.


Modi was conferred with Sweden's Royal Order of Polar Star Commander Grand Cross, the highest honour awarded by Stockholm to a Head of Government. This is the 31st international honour received by the Prime Minister.

Earlier, the Prime Minister's aircraft was escorted by Swedish Air Force jets as it landed in Gothenburg following his visit to The Hague. He was accorded a warm welcome at the airport by Kristersson.

"Landed in Gothenburg, Sweden. I will be meeting Prime Minister Kristersson with the aim of advancing the India-Sweden friendship in trade, investments, innovation, defence and more. With PM Kristersson and President of the European Commission, Ms. Ursula von der Leyen, I will be meeting European business leaders at the European Business Round Table for Industry. This will also deepen investment linkages between India and Europe," Modi wrote on X.

Interestingly, Modi was greeted with a traditional Bengali cultural performance upon his arrival at his hotel in Gothenburg.

Modi had earlier visited Sweden in 2018 for the first-ever India-Nordic Summit.
