"Today people are being instigated in the name of UCC. How can the country be run on two (laws)? The Constitution also talks of equal rights. Supreme Court has also asked to implement UCC. These (Opposition) people are playing vote bank politics," he said.
He also said, "Muslims of India should understand who are those inciting them for their own gains. Today we are seeing some people inciting others (Muslims) in the name of uniform civil code. Even the Constitution talks about equal rights to the citizens. They (opposition) blame us, but it is they who do Muslim, Muslim."
UCC was a part of BJP government's election manifesto in Karnataka. BJP president JP Nadda had said, "We are working within the ambit of the Constitution. Within the Constitution, we are permitted and directed to implement the Uniform Civil Code. We will move towards the UCC."
PM Modi also said the lives of Pasmanda Muslims have been made difficult by those who do vote bank politics and they are not treated equally. "They have been exploited by members of their own community," he added in his interaction with party workers.
Talking about Muslim women he said, those supporting triple talaq are doing grave injustice to Muslim daughters.
Taking another dig at the opposition he said, “Those seeking votes in the name of social justice have done maximum injustice to the villages and poor.”
