The remarks came after an armed gunman opened fire at the White House Correspondents' Association dinner on Sunday, triggering panic and the immediate evacuation of the venue. President Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were present at the event, which was also attended by senior administration officials and hundreds of journalists.

According to US law enforcement authorities, the suspect was swiftly apprehended by the Secret Service. He was reportedly carrying multiple weapons, including a shotgun, a handgun and several knives at the time of the attack.
