“There is no greater sorrow for any parent than losing one’s own child. The pain of losing a very young child is deeper,” the prime minister during the 131st edition of Mann ki Baat, expressing solidarity with the grieving family.

Referring to Alin as a “little innocent girl from Kerala,” he noted that awareness around organ donation in India is steadily increasing and that such selfless acts are also strengthening medical research.
“There are many people like Alin who have given another life to someone by organ donation,” he said, underscoring how individual decisions can ripple outward to transform multiple lives.
A tragedy that saved five lives
Alin Sherin Abraham suffered severe injuries in a road accident on February 5 at Pallam Borma junction in Kerala’s Pathanamthitta district, when a car travelling in the opposite direction collided with her family’s vehicle.Her mother and grandparents were also critically injured.
After receiving initial treatment in Changanassery and Tiruvalla, the infant was shifted to Kochi for advanced care. On February 13, doctors declared her brain-dead.

In a decision that moved the state, her parents, Arun Abraham and Sherin Ann John, chose to donate her organs.
Alin’s liver, two kidneys, heart valve and corneas were transplanted, offering a new lease of life to five recipients.
A six-month-old baby undergoing treatment received her liver, becoming the youngest patient in Kerala to undergo a posthumous liver transplant. The kidneys were allocated to another child, while the heart valve and corneas were transplanted into patients in urgent need.
With that decision, Alin became Kerala’s youngest organ donor.
A guard of honour for compassion
In recognition of the extraordinary gesture, the Kerala Police accorded a Guard of Honour to the 10-month-old — a rare and deeply symbolic tribute.The state government also extended its condolences to the family.
Kerala Health Minister Veen George described the parents’ decision as an “expression of love and care for humanity.”
“From the depths of their grief and sorrow, they chose to give life to others. It is difficult to describe. It is such an act of love and compassion, serving as a model for many,” George said. He added that the Chief Minister personally reached out to the family to convey condolences.
