On the eve of Independence Day, Prime Minister Narendra Modi paid homage to those who had lost their lives during partition and remembered those who had to undergo severe hardship after being forced to relocate from their homes.

Posting on 'X' in Hindi, Modi said Partition Horrors Remembrance Day is an occasion to faithfully remember those Indians whose lives were sacrificed during partition. "Along with them, this day also reminds us of the hardships and struggles of those who were forced to suffer the pain of being uprooted from their homes," he added.

Modi paid homage to all those who had to undergo these challenges in 1947.

In 2021, the Modi-led NDA government declared August 14 as the Partition Horrors Remembrance Day.
