PM Modi notes cultural significance of Jahan-e-Khusrau event, Sufi tradition at 25th-anniversary celebration

PM Modi praised the Jahan-e-Khusrau programme for its enduring cultural contribution as it celebrated its 25th anniversary at an event in Delhi on Friday. Speaking at the Sufi musical celebration, PM Modi highlighted the profound impact of the programme on both the country’s cultural landscape and people's hearts.

“Events like this are not only important for the country's culture and art, but one also feels relieved through them. The Jahan-e-Khusrau programme has also completed its 25 years, and in these 25 years, this programme has made a place in the hearts of people, which is its biggest success,” said the prime minister.

He further noted the significance of the Sufi tradition in shaping India's cultural identity, and praised Sufi saints.


"Sufi tradition carved a unique identity for itself in India. Sufi saints recited the Quran and also listened to the Vedas," he said, underscoring the syncretic nature of India's religious heritage. "Hazrat Amir Khusrau described India as greater than all the big countries of the world at that time...He called Sanskrit the best language in the world...He considers the wise men of India to be greater than even the greatest scholars."


On the occasion of Ramzan, which is set to begin shortly, PM Modi extended his greetings to the nation and praised the spirit of harmony and devotion associated with the holy month.

The Prime Minister also took a moment to acknowledge the efforts of Aga Khan in beautifying the Sunder Nursery, where the event was held.

"I also extend my greetings to the entire country on the occasion of Ramzan, which is about to begin. As I have come here at the Sunder Nursery, it is important to remember Aga Khan. His contribution in beautifying the Sunder Nursery has become a blessing for many artists," Modi added.


The Jahan-e-Khusrau programme, named after the famous Sufi poet and saint Amir Khusro, remains one of India's most renowned cultural celebrations, bringing together diverse voices in the celebration of music, poetry, and spirituality. With its 25-year journey, the event continues to enrich India's cultural fabric and foster unity through the shared love of art and tradition.
