Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday held a series of meetings with the leaders of three major Latin American economies - Brazil (G20 host), Argentina, and Chile - to discuss expanding trade partnerships, securing key natural resources such as minerals and energy, and strengthening defence ties.

"Had discussions with President Lula during the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro. Complimented him on Brazil's various efforts during its G20 presidency. We assessed the whole range of bilateral ties between our countries and reaffirmed our commitment to expanding cooperation in areas such as energy, biofuels, military, agriculture, and others," Modi wrote on X after meeting with Brazil's President on the sidelines of the G20 Summit.

After meeting the President of Chile, Modi wrote on X, "Met the President of Chile, Mr. Gabriel Boric Font. India's ties with Chile are getting stronger across sectors. Our talks focused on how to deepen relations in pharmaceuticals, technology, space and more. It is gladdening to see Ayurveda gaining popularity in Chile. This is also a sector where ties can gain momentum."

The PM also met President Milei of Argentina on the margins of G20 Summit. This was the first meet between the two leaders. Both leaders reviewed strategic partnership and agreed to deepen and diversify the relationship, particularly in the areas of digital technology, pharma, defence, space, energy, mineral resources and railways, according to MEA spokesperson.
