Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates the RBI’s Rs 169-crore data centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute in Bhubaneswar, Odisha, on Sunday.
The facilities are designed to meet the RBI’s computing requirements and provide a secure, resilient and scalable technology infrastructure for the central bank and the broader financial sector.
Addressing the inauguration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the RBI’s Data Centre and Cybersecurity Training Institute would benefit the people of Odisha and the country. He said digital banking had connected people across India to 24-hour banking services, adding that the government was pursuing a model of “pro-people, pro-active, good governance”. Modi also highlighted the need for balanced development, with opportunities for villages and small towns.
The data centre will house four facilities supporting mission-critical payment and settlement systems, along with other key initiatives. It has received the Uptime Institute’s Tier IV certification, a global benchmark for data centre infrastructure resilience.
The Cybersecurity Training Institute will provide a dedicated platform for training, research and capability development in cybersecurity and enterprise technology. Its focus areas will include emerging technologies such as quantum computing and artificial intelligence, with an emphasis on requirements relevant to the banking, financial services and insurance (BFSI) sector.
